ideas for the 3g show in the spring

i'd like to start throwing out some ideas here. i think the blog is ideal for this, so that other group members who can't make it to the meetings can participate.

one idea that has been on my mind is the natural passage of time. brian herrington, one of the music professors, held a creative workshop for composers this summer, and he was asking why time in music doesn't reflect time in the natural world. pieces are composed in metrical beats: 4/4, 3/4, etc. but if you sit in a room, natural time acts differently. your heart beat, sporadic sounds of birds outside the window, rain drops, a shadow moving across the room, the ascent and descent of winds, the cycles of night and day, etc. i think this concept would challenge all of us. personally, i am not used to dealing with time at all in my work, typically. i don't have any ideas at all regarding what we would do; it's just a concept.

That sounds really interesting. I'm not sure yet what I would do, but I think we should definitely try to find a dancer to collaborate.

It does indeed sound interesting. I think a short experimental film might even be possible. Its a fascinating concept, and theres so much you can explore and discover within it. I can toss around Ideas. =)

last night, shannon was talking about a creative writing assignment involving vignettes; what if our piece was somehow composed of vignettes?

Vignettes...how so? As in short installments? Im not quite sure I completely follow.
I know that Vignettes in the filmmaking sense would be short installments or scenes as part of a bigger, whole artistic piece. I am not too familiar however with how one would do a vignette on this topic, in another art form.

Please explain so that I may learn =)

put it that together and you've got a film that denotes the passage of time through a series of short clips, not necessarily with any segues between scenes, but still related enough to make the entire piece coherent, featuring a dancer. that could be interesting, kind of unsettling but arresting. a film could fit well with the juried show, since it could be shown on the flatscreen in the gallery.

yes. short installments. and it doesn't have to be about this topic, either. or it could be. ?
